The Hunt

Hey Guys,
I have found the most wonderful app in the world called 'The Hunt'.
How the app works is: if you see a piece of clothing you like, either online or in person, you take a picture of it and upload it on the app. Then, other people using the app will help you try and find that piece of clothing. It's essentially a big shopping community.

I think this app is perfect for when your friends don't want to tell you where they got their top from because they don't want you coping them or you're so shy to ask a stranger where they got their boots from; you can now easily find out.

The only downside I have with this app is that the majority of people who use it are from America, meaning that when they've found something for you, it's from an American site which really sucks seeing as I'm from England.

Overall I think it's a fantastic app and you should definitely get it if you're a nosy person like me and it's FREE!

So I bought some stuff that I probably don't really need...

Hey Guys,
At the weekend my family and I went to Cambridge for the day and whilst there I bought the strangest assortment of things, so I thought I would share them with you.

1. Ylvis What Does The Fox Say Book - I saw this and just couldn't resist, the song goes perfectly as a children's story book and the illustrations are so crazy.

2. Snazaroo Face Paint, white - You can never have too much face paint and this will stop me stealing Grace's every time I am dressing up, sorry Grace!

3. Harry Potter Bertie Botts Beans & Chocolate Frog - These are actually for Daisy, although I haven't seen her to give her them. No explanation is required for why I bought these as you all know about our shared obsession with Harry Potter.

4. Little Rubber Baby - You probably can't see this in the photo but above the snazaroo paint is my little rubber baby. I honestly don't know why I bought this but it is cute and creepy at the same time, therefore I love it!

Also today I went in a charity shop (another one, yes I know!) and spotted this black velvet jacket. I went to a vintage fair recently and saw lots of velvet jackets, when I got home I really regretted not buying one. But now I have one YAY! and the best part is that it only cost me £4.99.

Song Of The Week

Hey Guys,
Sorry that I am one day late with my Song Of The Week, life's hectic and it's all the fault of Christmas! Anyway I figured as it is Christmas tomorrow (ahhhh!) that this week I should choose a festive song to get us all in a Christmassy mood!

I have chosen, as Song of The Week, All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey. I love this song and was so amazed to hear that the millionth copy of it was sold a few days ago, read more about this here. Anyway here is my song of the week, Merry Christmas!

Review: Hanna

Hey Guys,
Whilst at Daisy's house the other day we watched Hanna. When this came out, in 2011, I really wanted to see it but unfortunately didn't manage to get to the cinema in time. I was so happy to find out that Daisy had it, it meant I could finally see Hanna!!

It is about ...
'A sixteen-year-old girl who was raised by her father to be the perfect assassin is dispatched on a mission across Europe, tracked by a ruthless intelligence agent and her operatives.'

It is a great action packed film, it stars Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, Atonement, The Host) as Hanna, Eric Bana as her 'father' Erik Heller, and Cate Blanchett as Marissa, the agent after Hanna. Almost the whole of the film is one giant chase scene with great pace, each event leading to even more trouble.

On the way Hanna makes friends and experiences humanity in a way that she never has before, she is bought up by Heller in a remote location in Finland. I found the scene in which she first experiences electricity particularly amazing and well filmed, Saoirse's acting in this scene was superb.

It was a visually stunning film, with Hanna travelling far on her journey to complete her mission. The whole film was gripping and I really enjoyed it despite having read some really bad reviews, I think the people who wrote those reviews must have been watching a different film!

Saoirse Ronan is so good as Hanna, seeming to have the innocence of a child yet the invincibility of an assassin. She plays the role with both strength and focus, truly fantastic, may I add also with amazing hair!

Daisy absolutely loved the film, this was her second time watching it within one week! She is developing a new crush on Saoirse as she is actually Irish. Daisy particularly liked the part when Hanna tried to kill/injure the boy who tried to kiss her and in general her whole manner. She also loved Sophia who was played by Jessica Barden because of her ditsyness and she also reminded her how idiotic teenagers actually are. However Daisy thought that it should have ended the scene before Marissa fell down that slope thing with a zoomed out shot of both Hanna and Marissa lying on that railway, although she did find it clever how the begining and the ending were linked.

This is definitely a bit of a marmite film, you will either love it or hate it, I personally love it and will be buying it very soon. Especially as it is only £2.95 from Amazon!

The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Collection

Hey Guys,
As you know this year is the Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary and to celebrate they did that special episode 'Day of the Doctor' with David Tennant, Matt Smith and John Hurt; not only did they do that amazing episode they also bought out books. Now seeing that the pair of us are book fanatics it was only fitting that I did some shopping.
The books are originally £7.99, but if you're savvy you would by them from The Works for £1.99. There are 11 books in total (I believe), each book is about each Doctor; I'm not really sure what they're about, i'm just assuming they're about that specific Doctor but for 2 quid a book I just had to get some. You can also buy a 9 book box set for only £12.99, which in some book shops is the price for only one book, what a bargain! The only down side about ordering these books were that they got a bit damaged, like most books do even with Amazon, but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

Their spines
Seeing as I've grown up with 3 Doctors, soon to be 4, I figured I would only buy the 9th,10th and 11th Doctor books; and if i enjoy them I may be tempted to buy some more but more likely I'll buy them just so I have a pretty, full set. Anyway, I'm going to start off with the Christopher Eccleston one, 'Only Human'.
I will do a review on these books, I'm not sure yet whether to do a collective review or one for each book yet... and I'm pretty certain Holly's asked for the Matt Smith one, 'The Silent Stars go by' for Christmas and there's no doubt she'll have something to say about them.

I also ordered 2 other books so there should be some reviews on them in the not so distance future and I'm also reading another book at the moment, but when am I not?

DIY Christmas nails - 1

Hey Guys,
I was scrolling through twitter when I noticed people had been painting their nails very festive, and naturally I wanted a go. I've had a few compliments on them, but i'm sure mainly out of curiosity.
Anyway I'm going to show you how I transformed my nails, however you must be warned that I will blatantly be showing you my nails and I do bite them (not the nicest), they're very short nails; and it surprised me that I could actually fit my design on.

So after taking inspiration for twitter and tumblr etc.. I decided I wanted to paint my thumb as Santa (which didn't work to well so I picked off) and four little elves.

Here's how I painted my elves:
Firstly I learnt this trick that when do fancy things/patterns on your nails and you don't want to get any varnish on your skin, you should put some sort of tape around the nails, so that's just what I did with masking tape.

Then, I painted my nails with a base of pink/peach for skin and left to dry. I found that using a darker shade of pink, emphasizing the skin, looked nicer and better than trying to get that 'subtle', natural skin colour.
After letting that dry, I used some white dots for the whites of the eyes; seeing as my finger nails aren't that long I designed it to look like the elves were popping their heads up, so I places the white dots at the very tips of my nails.

Afterwards, I painted on the elf hats using two different colours, I would have loved to use green but seeing as I don't own any I went for a mixture of blues. I tried to make the hats look floppy by extending one side to reach the top of the nail.

The pupils were then added to the whites of the eyes, I used a nail art pen for precision but depending on how careful you are, a normal black brush could be used.
There was then the final task of taking off the masking tape, cleaning up and adding a top coat for the end result.

They aren't perfect, as you can see, but I don't mind. The same process can be done for Santa but using red for the hat instead and I used glitter at the rim of the hat for a more festive look. Down below is a list of the products I used and I have some other designs floating around in my head, so look out for some more Christmas nail posts.

Here's a list of the products I used
  1. Claire's cosmetics: 727 - pink
  2. Rimmel (I love long lasting): 030 Double Decker - red
  3. Rimmel Nail tip whitener - white
  4. Mint London: Envy - Dark green
  5. Topshop - lighter blue/green
  6. Models Own nail art - black
  7. Nail varnish remover
  8. Silver Glitter
  9. Elegant touch rapid dry

Revamp Old Noticeboard

Hey Guys,
I was in a charity shop (yet again) the other day and spotted a nearly new noticeboard for just 85p, I had been looking for one for ages but hadn't wanted to pay much so this was perfect.
Here is how I revamped this old noticeboard...

First I lay newspaper down on the table to protect the tablecloth, Mum would not be happy if I got paint on that! Then I lay paper inside the notice board so the paint wouldn't go on the cork part of the board, making sure it was tucked in under the edges.

I used black acrylic paint. Acrylic paint is good because it goes on everything and dries really quickly. I put enough on so that I only had to do one coat which was great, altogether the painting of this noticeboard only took me 5 minutes.

So now it looks like this, I chose black to contrast the white wall I am going to hang this noticeboard on.

Now to decorate, so admittedly I haven't finished this stage and it does look a bit bare so I will have to collect some more things to go on it. I used pins (be careful!) to put things on the board, I have pink ones but you can pick up all sorts of funky pins from places like WHSmiths.

Daisy's Winter Essentials

Hey Guys,

Apart from the obvious wear a big woolly jumper, over-sized lined coat and an extra snugly scarf in the Winter time, I've managed to reduce my Winter essentials into 4 things.

1. Cable knit socks

Everybody needs some warm, fuzzy socks to wear at night in front of the TV but what about during the day? I suggest cable knit socks, especially from the brand Pringles; Pringles are so amazing that I try and get as many of their socks and underwear and everybody should at least have one pair. These socks keep your feet warm, but not to hot or thick like bed socks. They can also be warn with anything without judgment unlike bright pink spotty bed socks, and look adorable poking out of shoes.

2. Boots (Doc Martens)

When the snow comes, you can't go walking outside in little ballet pumps so a good, solid pair of boots are needed. I would recommend Doc Martens because they're water proof and have a thick sole; meaning that they're long lasting (mine have lasted for 2 years I think) and they're extremely comfortable, for if like me you have to wait 10 minutes in the cold waiting for a bus.

3. Hand/Body Cream

This may seem like a common one but most people, and I did once, forget to moisture more frequently during the Winter. My legs can get extremely chapped and dry, it isn't nice and I get embarrassed when waiting before PE and other people can see them. The same applies with my hands, thankfully I've gotten into the habit of moisturising them regularly, however they can become horrendously chapped and can bleed which can't be nice. The brand I will forever recommend is Soap and Glory, their Hand Food will always be the very best, and it also contains marshmallow! Their body butters and creams are also fantastic and I know they're widely recommended, my favorite is The Righteous Body Butter because it sinks into the skin fast and doesn't feel sticky but also has a nice day time smell.

4. Vaseline

Again another simple one but lips get very chapped during the Winter. Although lipsticks and other lip balms can moisturize your lips, Vaselines pure purpose is to moisturize lips and nothing else such as tinting them etc. Vaseline also lasts for a lot longer than other lip balms which say they can last for 8 hours or more. Overall when it comes to lips, I would always put on Vaseline at night so it can settle in.

Song Of The Week

Hey Guys,
I couldn't actually pick one particular song because I've just been listening to this one album while revising. 'Teenage Dirtbag' has so many cool songs from 'back in the day'; some of the songs aren't really to my taste but the majority are.

The Clothes Show 2013

Hey Guys,
Last weekend we went to The Clothes Show at the NEC in Birmingham, this was our second year and we had been looking forward to it for a long time. Although we didn't feel that this year was as good as the last we still really enjoyed ourselves! The actual show was very good it featured clothes both from the high street and from top end designers, modelled by both models and dancers.

Union J opened the clothes show with a new song, this was a great surprise. They performed well and got the crowd going ready for the catwalk show to begin.

After the show it was time to shop, we figured that the easiest way to show you what we bought was to do a haul, so here it is.
We both bought a Rimmel London retro goodie bag at £5 it was great value for money, this included mascara, nail varnish, foundation and tan (although neither of us will use this!)

We also both bought a Models Own Goodie Bag for £10. Daisy had bought one the previous year and was adamant that she bought another this year because it was so good! Walking round we also got given a free nail file from The London College of Beauty Therapy

Holly
I bought a blue & white check shirt dress from Harper & Lewis , is a bit short but so comfortable and warm for winter as it can be worn with the sleeves rolled up or down.
There were several universities represented at the Show and one of these was De Montford University who had a little shop. I bought a lovely navy blue InWear skirt for just £5, as you can imagine I was very happy!

Daisy
I didn't buy any clothing but I couldn't help but stare at the cut out shoes on all the little stalls. All the bags I bought included nail varnish because that's what I love so I bought a MINT London Goodie Bag for £10 which has become my new favourite brand of nail varnish. This included 4 nails varnishes (I picked myself) and a little sandwich bag full of other nail goodies; my new favourite thing is a colour wheel because it shows all my nail colours in a pretty little wheel.

Finally I bought a Elegant Depilation bag which I was tricked into buying. I was not pleased with this purchase as I was told it would remove body hair without shaving/waxing and wouldn't come back as stubble, which it did! I do not recommend this, because now I have weird arms!

Finally we leave you with a picture we had taken in a car photo-booth whilst at the show, Holly (far left) and Daisy (far right) with our lovely friends Tabitha (next to Holly) and Grace (next to Daisy).

(sorry about the flash on the photo!)

Review: Shakespeare In Love

Hey Guys,

I'll just put this out there, I hate Shakespeare! I hated studying him at school, learning about his techniques etc. the only good thing about him was the second film of Romeo and Juliet, when Leonardo Dicaprio played Romeo. Anyway when I saw the advert I was immediately drawn in, mainly because Joseph Fiennes looked good (28 when filmed) and he still looks fairly good for 43 ;).

Spolier, I'm going to tell you what happens. It's very predictable from start to end but it so well written I really didn't care.

There's this lovely young lady, Violia, played by Gwyneth Paltrow who loves William Shakespeare's plays and obviously when she hears that Will's auditioning for another play, she want's to go however she had to dress up as a man because obviously women weren't allowed on stage; she calls this boy Thomas Kennisk, who gets the roll of Romeo.

In the mean time Will visits Violia's house and actually meets her, as the girl, where it's love at first sight. Will writes letters to her, and her love grows for him through rehearsals but Will still thinks its Thomas. Eventually Will discovers that Thomas is actually Violia in disguise, they then have to hide their love in front of the other actors; but obviously then Violia's disguise is fully blown and everybody finds out about her.

Violia is made to marry a man she doesn't love instead of William but after her wedding discovers that 'Romeo and Juliet' is been preformed at one of the play houses.
At the play house the man playing Juliet is unable to preform, so Violia sneaks back stage to take his place; to everybody's surprise that a woman comes on stage, the audience fall silent. When the play ends the audience is in an uproar because of the amazing performance and all seems well until the very end when William and Violia have to go their separate ways. It's all very emotional.

Overall it's a fantastic film, I would definitely recommend it to lovers of Shakespeare but I think anybody would enjoy it even if you don't like Shakespeare like myself.

The Fratellis

Hey Guys,
A few weeks ago my friend Eleanor and I went to see The Fratellis at the Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton. I last saw The Fratellis at The V Festival in the summer and was really excited to see them play indoors at a smaller venue because I knew I would be able to get much closer ( that is one advantage of being small)

The support band were called Cut Ribbons and although I wasn't expecting much from them they were actually quite good, we saw them in the foyer on the way out of the concert. I though the girl, who was one of the two lead singers in the band, was really good and had a really unique sense of style, also she had an amazing dove shaped tambourine, which I want really badly!

The Fratellis completely exceed my expectations, they were absolutely fabulous! I love their music because whenever it is playing you simply can't stand still, this obviously makes a great concert atmosphere! The lead singer, John Fratelli (who I like probably too much ... ;) ) was really good with the crowd and the music was great, for only three men they can make a lot of noise.

They are a Scottish band who have featured as one of my earlier Song Of The Week Posts, check it out here. Overall it was a really great night out an as soon as The Fratellis come near here again I will be booking tickets!

Song Of The Week

Hey Guys,
This week I have chosen the orchestral version of 'Youth' by Foxes as the Song Of The Week. I like the original song as well but, although I don't like Christmas, the orchestral version of 'Youth' has a really magical almost Christmas like sound to it, which I really enjoy. It is also used on the Debenhams Christmas Advert.

November Nails

Hey Guys,
We want to start doing a monthly post on our favourite nail varnishes from the past month. If you go on YouTube a lot, you will know that this is a common video where people talk about what things they've been loving that month and it can be about anything but it's mainly to do with make-up; seeing that the only real 'make-up' we wear is nail varnish, we figured we could do a monthly post on what nail varnishes we like.

As we have only just gone into December we are going to post the November Nails now and you will get December Nails later this month.

Daisy
So if you didn't really know I've been posting quite a lot about Barry M's matte nail varnishes and that what I've been wearing this month; and the colour I've been wearing is 'Crush'.
Holly
I have been wearing the shade 'Leaf' from the Polish Limited Collection, I bought this nail varnish in a sale in Marks & Spencer, although that may not be a 'cool' place to buy nail varnish, it is the best nail varnish I have ever bought.

Watch out for December Nails in the next few weeks!

Meet Greg

Hey Guys,
Last Friday I went to my local village for the turning on of the Christmas lights and there was a carnival; I say 'carnival' but it was a few stalls and a not so fun Fun House.

While I was there my friend told me there was a fish stall last year so we went on a hunt for it. When we came across it we had to pay £2.50 and win a game of dart to get the fish but the man at the stall announced that we win every time! I've been wanting a fish since late last year and the fact my parents weren't around it was a given that I was going to win/buy one. I was with two of my friends and all three of us bought one;
I called my fish Greg, and my friends were called Jeff and Harri.

My parents weren't best pleased with my buying Greg so he lived in a big mixing bowl for a couple of days until they realised he needed a real home. Unfortunately Greg is an only fish but i'm hoping to buy another Goldfish soon because he looks so lonely in his big tank. At the moment I love Greg but I have a feeling that I'll soon forget about him and he'll have to go and live with my grandparents but I'm hoping that won't happen anytime soon.
Seeing that Greg is my first fish I'm trying really hard to look after him properly, even if he doesn't eat much food and hide at the back of the tank, but all is going well so far :D
