Song of the Week

Hey Guys,

It's Daisy, sorry I've been a bit awol for a while, I've had a very busy summer holiday completing my Gold DofE, but I'm back and I hope you're all having a nice bank holiday.

The song I've chosen this week is from a new artist I have discovered, Jose Vanders, she's a piano based folk-pop musician. My favourite song of hers is "Faces Going Places".

I'm unable to find an original video of this song but click here for one I found onYoutube; and click here for an amazing cover of it.

Ps. Now that I've completed all that, you should be expecting some hauls from me and a few film reviews in the near future (that is if school isn't too hectic).

Song of the Week

Hey Guys,

Sorry this is late, but my Song of the Week, technically my song of last week, is 'Life With You' by the Proclaimers. On Saturday I was lucky enough to only have to pay £10 to see The Proclaimers, who were playing at Shrewsbury Flower Show. They played for a good hour and a half with a really varied set of songs. It was great to finally see them live. I really enjoyed it, hence why they created my song of the week.

Hi Guys,

The song I've chosen this week is from the indie pop band from NY, The Score, with the song 'Oh my Love'. I've not got anything interesting to say about this other than I like the song so I suggest you listen to it...

Uganda Haul

Hey Guys,

I returned from my trip to Uganda last Monday morning and am so excited to share some of the things that I bought with you. Uganda is an amazing country with amazing people, never have I felt so welcome in a country. I can not begin to explain how breathtaking my time was there and how much I enjoyed the entire experience. Perhaps I will do a separate post on my favourite things we did there another time but for now here is my haul...

1. Tiny Antique Mask from a small shop near where we had breakfast on our last morning.
2. Spider Web Bowl from Kampala Craft Market (KCM). Kampala is the capital city of Uganda.
3. Zebra with wheels from KCM.
4. Red and Black Mask, from KCM, and Spatula from our link school, Lords Meade.
5. Wooden Painted Bird from Queen Elizabeth National Park, whilst we were on safari.
6. Two Wooden Painted Figurines from KMC.
7. Fabric Doll from a different market in Kampala.
8. Elephant Painting from Lords Meade.
9. Wooden Salad Servers from KMC.

10. School Tank Top from Lords Meade.
11. Blue Dress with Elephants on from Jinja High Street.
12. Bracelets from Mirembe Cottage, Necklace from Jinja High Street and Necklace from Yamba

Everything in the marketsand shops in Uganda was lovely and if I had been given more time and more luggage space I could have bought back so much more. I have not included prices of things in this haul because I can't remember most of them, but lets just say that it was insanely cheap and I don't think anything in this haul cost me more than £5.00. I just have one thing left to say in this post and that is if you ever get the opportunity to go to Uganda, take it. I know that you won't regret it.

Song of the Week

Hey Guys,

This week I have chosen 'The Night I Heard Caruso Sing' by Everything But The Girl as my Song of the Week. My dad introduced me to this duo, Tracey Thorne and Ben Watt, and they are amazing. What makes me want to listen to this song over and over again is the perfection of the harmonies, they are just so in sync and you can tell that these are two incredibly talented people.

You can listen to 'The Night I Heard Caruso Sing' here.

I can't do a post about Everything But The Girl without mentioning another amazing song of theirs called 'Apron Strings'. This song is beautiful, but also saddening and features on the album 'Idlewild'.

You can listen to 'Apron Strings' here.

Q - Queen Bee

Hey Guys,

I thought I would do something a bit different for this alphabet post and base it around a person. Partly because I find summer fashion posts hard to do because I naturally sway towards wearing dark colours which are not readily available in the summer and partly because it is nice to have a change. So without further ado let's explore Lorde's Style.

Born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1996 with a passion for singing and song writing, Lorde finally burst onto the music scene in 2013 with her debut EP 'The Love Club'. She sealed her fame with her album 'Pure Heroine', which reached the UK top ten. In particular her song 'Royals', from the album, which was an instant hit, reaching number one almost immediately. 'Royals' also gave Lorde two Grammys in 2014.

1. This is an outfit Lorde wore in 2013 and I love it. It is a modern twist on the cute ("kawaii") schoolgirl look.  I like how she doesn't let her height (5'5") get in the way of her wearing midi skirts, something that magazines often advertise as being for the taller amongst us. The stripey sock and black shoe combo is great and further proves that a simple colour scheme of black and white really works.

2. Here Lorde rocks a fishnet top and a pleather skirt. This outfit is simple but effective, drawing attention to her on the stage. She wore a similar top in her video for 'Tennis Court', with it working equally as well there. She manages to make the top look youthful instead of like a halloween costume and I don't know many people who could get away with this. Overall it is a brilliant outfit.

3&4. I have included these suits because Lorde has a definite style when on her own stage, generally wearing long flowing dresses with lots of material or funky tailoring like this. I like how she teams her suits with a bralet each time because it brings depth to her outfit. Every piece of tailoring she wears, and trust me there is a lot, is immaculate and perfect for her. Here she looks fabulous in both pink and white, rocking the 'hands in the pockets look' like nobody else can.

Song of the Week

Hey Guys,

The song I've chosen this week is 'Home' by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zero. This song was released in 2009 so I'm certain you would have heard it before as it's also played on quite a lot of adverts.
There are two reasons why I have chosen this song. The first being I recently rewatched 'Stuck in Love' while on holiday and this song is played at the beginning and end of the film (it sort of symbolises a whole year that's passed, I won't go on but if you've seen the film you'll understand) and I forgot how much I enjoyed the song. The second reason is since watching that film I had to do my Gold DofE - which consists of 4 days camping - and throughout those challenging days I constantly had this song in my head reminding me that I was soon going to be home, which was a lovely comforting thought when trudging through water logged fields.

I hope that this song cheers you up as much as it does me, click here to listen to it.
