Song of the Week

Hey Guys,
This week I have chosen a song by an artist I have recently discovered, her name is Grimes and she is a 26 year old a musical 'goddess' from Canada. Now you will either love or hate her musical style (a lot like marmite), that has been described by The Guardian: "by sounding a little like everything you've ever heard, the whole sounds like nothing you've ever heard".

Personally I love Grimes' music and could listen to all day, it has a very relaxing, otherworldly sense that makes it stand out from the crowd. On her bandcamp website (link below) you can download her music by donations, which I think is a great idea.

So anyway here is my Song of the Week, Oblivion by Grimes.

To see how Grimes makes her music and to learn more about her, watch this video (link below). The video is a live performance by Grimes in KEXP Studios, of the songs Symphonia IX (My Wait Is U), Genesis and Be a Body, as well as an interview.

Sorry for the long Song of the Week post, we have been a bit absent due to exams recently and consequently have lots to share!

Prom Pampering

Hey Guys,
The other day was our prom night and I wanted to share with you how I treated and pampered myself the day before and on the day of the prom.

I first have to admit that I'm not a girly girl, but I thought that because it will be my only prom that it was important that I at least treated my face and skin.
The day before

I went down to my local spa for a waxing treatment and to have my nails done. This was the first time I had my nail done at a salon and I was so happy that I didn't do it at home. I chose to have gel nails, I picked a grey-blue colour to off set my dress and to match my jewelry, and because they're gel they're going to last another 3 weeks.

That evening I put on a Hello hydration hair mask, Herbal essences, to hydrate my hair - recently I have been using Alberto Balsam shampoo, but it has really dried my hair out, making it more like straw then silk.
This hair mask took 5 minutes to work, so in this time I apply the No clogs allowed by Soap & Glory. Both of these masks where then taken off in the shower.

The day
Being as blind as a bat I find it very hard to shave in shower, so I always find it easier to do it in the bath. First I used a normal shower gel to exfoliate, then I followed this up by using Scrub 'Em and Leave 'em by Soap & Glory and then used their Clean on me shower gel. After drying I moisturized with the The Righteous Butter, Soap & Glory.

Scrub your nose in it, Soap & Glory, which I then followed with my DIY lip scrub. I now wished I moisturized my nose afterwards to get rid of the dry patch there.
Once I was super soft I then used

I hope that gave you some ideas on how to next pamper yourself, my skin felt so soft afterwards; and if you have prom soon, I hope you have a wonderful night.

Song of the week

Hey Guys,
The song i'm loving at the moment is 'Change of Seasons' by Sweet Thing. Sweet Thing was a Canadian alternative rock band based in Toronto who have been signed to EMI Music Canada since 2008. I discovered this song while the credits for 'Easy A' were rolling.

Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibition

Hey Guys,
Last weekend, to celebrate the end of exams, my family and I had a trip to London. The main aim of the trip was to go to the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition, which is currently on at the Barbican.

Here is a link to Jean Paul Gaultier talking about the exhibition...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvVUoeqYvSE

The exhibition was absolutely wonderful and completely exceeded my already high expectations, the range of work was stunning. The exhibition allowed us to follow the thought processes that lead to him creating such daring pieces of fashion, which were each works of art and had been worn by greats such as Madonna and Kate Moss. Every garment was so detailed and well thought out, each and every one had the wow factor and bought us closer to understanding the value of Jean Paul Gaultier's role in the world of fashion.

Certain mannequins around the exhibition had faces projected onto them, these faces moved and on many occasions spoke or sang. The faces were extremely life like and this added to the wonder of the exhibition as it became even more visually stunning. The exhibition is a real experience and I really recommend you visit it!

Visit the Barbican's website here, there is a detailed description of the exhibition and a bit more information about Jean Paul Gaultier, as well as a few pictures of the exhibition itself....

It is only on until 25th August so don't miss out!

May and June Nails

Hey Guys,
Sorry we didn't do an April Nails post, we have been very busy with revising for our GCSE's. We have decided to merge the May and June Nail Posts together.

Holly
I think the best Nail News to deliver this month is that Alexa Chung has been announced as the new face of Nails Inc (she is replacing her friend Poppy Delevingne). As well as becoming the face of Nails Inc, Alexa is also lauching her own collection for them which is coming for AW14 and will be available from August 2014.

I am really excited for her collection because not only have I admired Alexa for a long time, but the collection is to be fabric inspired, including varnishes with names such as 'Silk in Black' and 'Lace'

Daisy
I've been trying to grow my nails for prom and something that's really been helping - before I've chewed off my nails - is Jessica, Phenomen Oil. The oil is used to heal, nourish and hydrate cuticles, to encourage nail growth and strengthen nails.

"Jessica Phenomen Oil is not only great for your nailcare routine, it is also excellent for elbows, feet, knees and any other rough, dry areas of skin that need deep moisturisation."

Song of the Week

Hey Guys,
I have chosen the song 'Everything is Embarrassing' by Sky Ferreira. It is an older one of Sky's songs but is still so good. The video is in black and white, it is very simple which works well with this strong song. I like to play this song when I have a lot on my mind as it is relaxing and helps me contemplate things. I hope it relaxes you too!

Song of the week

Hey Guys,
I've found this really nice song which has been putting me in a really good mood, and I need some cheering up with revising 24/7. I have had trouble researching the song writer, Benji Jackson, and the 'official video' has a voice over so I've found a different video.

Lazy Oaf x Garfield

Hey Guys,
This is just a quick post (as I am on a revision break) to share with you my favourite collaboration at the moment, which is Lazy Oaf x Garfield. I think this is a really quirky collaboration and it appears to have worked out really well. The collection contains both mens and womens clothes, as well as loads of fun accessories.
Today I am going to share with you my three favourite items from this collection...
First up is the 'Lazy Oaf x Garfield Pizza Cropped Shirt' which is £65. I think this is a great design, it is a white cotton shirt that features Garfield holding a pizza. Everyone loves pizza so surely Lazy Oaf are onto a winner. Buttoned all the way up to the top with a skater skirt and converse, this shirt can be part of a really cute summer outfit.

Secondly we come to an accessory, this 'Lazy Oaf x Garfield Barrell Bag' costs £48. It has a brilliant design and I love it's teal colour. It could be a great accessory for an all black outfit, adding a pop of colour to your outfit or just a fun bag to haul all your stuff around in (it would make a really cool gym bag!)

My final choice is this 'Lazy Oaf x Garfield Nine Lives Dress' which costs £65. It is a multicoloured oversized dress covered in Garfield's face that holds several different expressions. I think this is a fun alternative to the often boring summer dress and would be great for festivals, especially teamed with some brightly coloured wellies!
