Song of the week

Hey guys,

This week I (Daisy) had to pick the song and I've chosen an old song by The Smiths. The Smiths were an English alternative rock band; vocalist Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr, the band also included bassist Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce.

The song I've chosen is called You Make My Dreams. I first heard this song on a film, 500 days of Summer, a couple of years ago and since then I've loved it. So recently I've being hearing it more and thought I'd share it for those who haven't heard it!

Quote Of The Week

Hey Guys,

So this week we have had real difficulty choosing a word of the week, so we decided instead we would  choose a quote/ sentence.

'We all start as strangers'

We have chosen this quote/sentence because of the truth hidden in it, the fact is, is that you have to talk to someone if you want get to know them, whether it is someone you want to be friends with or someone you really like.
It is always scary, breaking the ice with new people or people you haven't spoken to for a while but it is so important do this as it may form the foundations of friendships that could last a lifetime. So next time you see a new person or someone you haven't spoken to in a long time, just remember 'we all start as strangers' and if you go and talk to them you never know where it may lead.

Song Of The Week

Hi Guys,

So this week it is my (Holly) turn to pick the song of the week. I have liked Paramore now, for about 1 year, so was very excited when I saw they had a new album coming out. Although there have been mixed views of this album, with people saying that Paramore has gone too pop, I love it. I am glad Paramore are still together, as since the last album they have lost a guitar player and a drummer  and are now down to three members.

The song I have chosen is Still Into You which is by Paramore (if you hadn't guessed already)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OblL026SvD4

The lead singer in Paramore is Hayley Williams, she is well known for singing 'Airplanes' with B.O.B. I absolutely love the colour of her hair, although I am not so sure about the short fringe she has. Her hair is half orange and half pink, love it.

Pitch Perfect

Hey Guys,

Today we're going to tell you about Pitch Perfect. It's definitely one of our favourite films, we saw it in the cinema and became obsessed with the 'Riff-Off' song and as soon as the DVD came out we had to buy it.

'The Bellas, an all-girl singing group thriving on female pop songs and their perfect looks, are forced to regroup after an epic fail at last year's final. Among the new recruits is freshman Beca (Anna Kendrick - Twilight) an independent, aspiring DJ with no interest in the college life. But after getting to know the group of oddballs and misfits, including Amy (Rebel Wilson - Bridesmaids), Beca has a new outlook and takes it upon herself to help the Bellas find their new look and sound get back into the competition.'

Obviously this film is all about music and we love every single song, but our favourite scene is the Riff-Off. The songs in the Riff Off are;

  • "Mickey" - Tony Basil
  • "Like A Virgin" - Madonna
  • "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" - Pat Benatar
  • "It Must Have Been Love" - Roxette
  • "S&M" - Rihanna
  • "Let's Talk About Sex" - Salt 'N Pepa
  • "I'll Make Love To You" - Boyz II Men
  • "Feels Like The First Time" - Daoud Heidami
  • "No Diggity" - Blackstreet

Our favourite character is Fat Amy, who later on in the film admits that her name is actually Fat Patricia. Fat Amy is defiantly the funniest character in film; when you first meet Fat Amy you instantly love her personality, here's a video which shows Fat Amy's best moments.

One of Daisy's favourite scenes is when Beca and her friend Jesse (who ends up being Beca's boyfriend) are stacking CDs in a radio station; this is when you can tell that Beca and Jesse are starting to feel an attraction for one another. In Daisy's words, "It's so cute".

Beca's DJ talent comes in hand when Aubrey, one of the original Bellas who at first despised Beca's modern way of doing things, asks her to 'remix' the group. Aubrey takes the lead and together the Bellas come up with a remix of 'Just The Way You Are' - Bruno Mars and 'Just a Dream' - Nelly. It is a beautiful moment as the tension between the members in the group disappears and you see them come together.

But the Bellas aren't the only acapella group on the campus of Barden University, meet the Treblemakers. Lead by self-obsessed Bumper, the Treblemakers are at the top of their game and the Bellas main rivals. You have got to love the treblemakers, as Benji( Jesse's roommate) says "that is what being a man is all about."

One of Holly's favourite lines in the film is this...

Beca and Jesse are such a cute couple and although other people have been critical about the 'predictable' ending to this film, we loved it. Their characters have such good chemistry and we were so glad when they finally got together after Beca incorporated into The Bellas Finals Entry a song from The Breakfast Club, Jesse's Favourite Film.

There are so many great scenes, lines and characters in this film that we can't share all of them with you. Just know that this film is great and if you get a chance to see it we would really really recommend that you watch it.

What would we love to own?

Hi Guys,

Today we have decided to share with you one thing we would each really like to own.

I (Holly) would love is this pair of vintage style denim dungarees from Zara. I lived in dungarees when I was young so was thrilled to see them in the shops again!  Love them or hate them, dungarees are super comfortable and I adore them, so hopefully it won't be too long till I own a pair.

http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/uk/en/zara-neu-S2013/399004/1153029/VINTAGE+DENIM+JUMPER

So as Holly lived in dungarees, I (Daisy) still live in onesies and lounge clothes. Last year I started to like dinosaurs (T-Rexs especially), so I obviously wanted a dinosaur onesie. I love the Kigu onesie, but
unfortuanlty they cost £40 and my mother wouldn't let me spend that much money on one; in the end I settled
for a dinosaur onesie from Primark, however recently i've realised it looks more like a dragon, but it's the
closest thing i'll get to a Kigu so I can't complain.

Haul

Hey Guys,

So recently it's been my (Daisy) birthday and as you know I've been to Florence, and I got lots of lovely presents and bought some new stuff.

For my birthday I got some Ox-Low White Converse; I wore them frequently in Florence, as I found them perfect for long walks. If you didn't already know, Converse is an American Company and their shoes are very practical, extremely comfortable and suit any outfit. I would recommend everybody should have some Converse, as they are so durable and worth every penny.

For Florence I bought these little, brown pumps from Primark for around £8. They have little triangles cut out which make them perfect for the Summer and hot weather, as they allow your feet to breathe. I haven't worn them much so far but they have such soft soles which make them extremely comfortable and the fact that they're not all year shoes, mean that they should last at least 2 Summers.

Finally the most recent thing I bought are my new Vans, they're my favourite purchase as they were sooo cheap only £25 (Well cheap for Office)! They're a Hunter Green Tweed which is nicer than just plain green as it gives it more texture. I prefer darker colours as they go with practically everything, again they have soft souls and heels meaning no blisters. I was recommended Vans by my friend, I don't regret buying them and I would suggest buying them for a comfortable everyday wear.

I (Holly) have been needing new school shoes for a while, and when I found these Doc. Martens I had to have them. My mum bought them for the amazing price of £60 from Amazon. Unfortunately unlike Daisy's soft heeled shoes, mine are very hard and I have a blister on one foot, although they are softening up. I love them and I really recommend Doc. Martens as they appear to last for many years.

I shop in Topman as much as I do in Topshop (especially for socks), so when I was in town the other day and saw a sale there I couldn't help having a quick look. I am so happy I did because I found this awesome shirt which is patterned with ukuleles. I play the ukulele so this is great to wear when my ukulele band and I perform in the pub. And the best thing is it only cost me £10!

Word of The Week

The word of the week this week is :
BUSY

actively and attentively engaged in work or a pastime

Last Saturday I (Daisy) got up at 11am to fly to Florence with the school, for an art trip. It was an amazing experience and although I'm not at all an arty person, I would go back there in a heart beat.

Like a true girl my favourite part of the holiday was shopping in the market, where I bought I lovely, little leather notebook and a couple of braclets. On the first day I went to the Accademia Gallery, where the statue 'David' is held, it's was so brilliant to see the sculpture up close a get a real feel for everything.

As I was a 'senior' on this trip the teachers allowed us to go around the town and galleries etc on our own, and although we were still closely watched by the teachers, getting into the Italian culture was nice and refreshing compared to Wolverhampton.

There were so many things that I did there, it would be a really long post if I wrote about it all; but the most amazing thing I did was on the last day, when I went in The Dome of the Florence Cathedral, the steps were a pain to go up but I wouldn't regret it one bit! The fresco on the Dome was so beautiful and the view on the top of the Dome was breathtaking; but what made the trip better was the fact I got to spend it with all of my friends!

So as Daisy jetted across to Florence, I (Holly) was stuck in England.

My family and I travelled down to London on Wednesday evening and on Thursday we went to the matinee performance of War Horse. We were lucky enough to have front row tickets and that made it extra special. The puppetry was incredible and although a technical fault caused the play to stop for several minutes, it was still one of the most wonderful performances I have ever been to see.

After War Horse we took a walk down South Bank, coming across the skatepark my Dad used to skateboard in and a huge upside down purple cow, which apparently a music festival is going to take place in!

We made our way back to the Midlands on Saturday, but on the way we went to the Harry Potter Studio Tour. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and had heard so much about it from Daisy who went last year. It didn't disappoint, as it was the 1 year anniversary of the Tour a week or so ago, there were extra   surprises around the tour. It was awesome and I loved every minute of it, in the shop I bought a Ravenclaw bag, a Hogwarts crest keyring and a Luna postcard.

We hope you have been as busy as us this week

Song of the week

Hey Guys,

So this week I've chosen a song by Gabrielle Alpin, who's an English singer/songer writer, she's best known for her song 'The Power of Love', which was set as the theme tune for 'The Snowman and the Snowdog'. She first became known by doing acoustic cover versions of  Paramore and You Me at Six on youtube.

The song I have chosen is called Panic Cord, which is about Gabrielle ending a relationship to early.

A Film Everyone Should Watch

Hi Guys,

Grease is one of our favourite films, it was released in 1978 and is an American Musical Film. The film is set in American high-school called Rydell High. There are two main groups in the school, The T-Birds, with their leather jackets and quiffs, and The Pink Ladies with their matching pink coats and girlish ways. Of course it is essential that you watch it, how else are you going to dance to Grease Lightening! The characters are brilliant, the songs are catchy and it is set in 1950's, what's not to love?

So if you haven't seen it yet, now is the time. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Coloured Hair

Hi Guys,
For a long time now we have both loved fun coloured hair and I know for certain that if it was not for school rules that our hair would be far more fun. Anyone who knows me well will know that I have wanted orange hair for a long time now and I know that Daisy loves the idea of light pink or light blue. Maybe one day we will dye our hair and make it fun but for now we can only keep dreaming...

Song of The Week

Hey guys,

Daisy is away in Florence with school so I am going to be posting alone over the next week or so.

Unfortunately I couldn't make my mind up between two songs, so this feature should really be called Songs of the Week!

The two songs I have chosen are very different to each other, the first is a beautiful song by a singer/songwriter called Lauren Aquilina and the second is a older song I have been singing all week by an awesome band called The Fratellis.

Inspirational Person of the Month

Hi guys, we've decided that every month we're going to share with you who we find to be an inspiration.

Our first inspiration is :
GILLIAN ZINSER

We first saw Gillian on the tv programme '90210', where she plays Ivy Sullivan; who is very quirky but a down to earth girl, with AMAZING hair and unique sense of fashion, and from that our love for Gillian blossomed.

Gillian featured in our favourite magazine 'Company' in August last year; if you have not yet seen it click here to find out more

Gillian talks about her fashion style where Company came to the conclusion that Gillian is 'grungy' but also that she gives her outfits a certain 'something', which makes them unique to her.

Here (left) Gillian is wearing  a vintage oversized jumper and skinnies with a Balenciaga handbag, but she makes it her own with a pop of colour from her bright pink lipstick.

To the right, Gillian is sticking to her typical grungy style; but making a statement with the amazing red hat, but not over doing it and sticking to converse.

We love that Gillian never takes herself to seriously and that she lives her life to the fullest. Gillian is one of few celebrities that are actually themselves; as many celebs put on an act to fit their 'high profile'.

Gillian says, "I agree that there is a ‘type’ in Hollywood and I don’t see myself in that bracket. I’m simply an actor who is in Los Angeles for work, and I keep my personal life quite separate to work. I live in a small bungalow by the beach and I think there’s something to be said for not having to run around town and be on show.”

Favourite Magazine - Company

Today we are going to talk about our favourite magazine, Company. We first discovered Company around July last year and since then have been completely hooked! It is a small non-glossy magazine which is small enough to take just about anywhere. The articles are light hearted and there are often interviews with up and coming stars of music, fashion and film.

Our favourite edition has got to be August of last year because it featured Gillian Zinser, star of 90210. We love Gillian's effortless style and fun attitude, so to see her in our favourite magazine was a dream come true!

April's company features Emma Stone, why not check it out?
