M - Monki

Hey Guys,

We have reached the midway point in our Alphabet Style posts so I for a change I have chosen a brand as letter M. The day I discovered the brand 'Monki' was a very good day, I saw them featured in a magazine, I forget which one, and looked them up, discovering something truly wonderful

As a brand it is described as this... 'Monki is a fashion brand with a world of its own, noted for its street-style-meets-Scandi-chic design and its quirky story-based store concepts.' It is a fun, yet stylish brand that features on asos and its own shop in Soho, London. A shop which I am desperate to visit, partly because it look like this on the inside...

My favourite finds on Monki at the moment are below, it was really hard to choose because it has such a great range of clothes, accessories and shoes.

Sheri Blouse £35
Juni Coat £65
Panda Key Chain £5
Monica Dress £30
Lolo Slip On £25
Hulda Sock £5

I recently noticed that they were having a sale and, although it is very reasonable priced anyway, it was great because I am always hunting for a bargain. From the sale I got a lacy, burgundy top and two pairs of quirky socks with little monsters on them. When the package arrived I couldn't believe how lovely the packaging was and it was such a fun touch which featured the Monkis (see below).

The 'Monkis' are so cute, and according to the website inhabit The Monki World. They feature on everything Monki, the packaging, the labels and even as their own toys. They are a cute way of getting Monki to become a recognisable brand, without excessive 'logo branding' all over the clothes!

The Monki website can be found here.  Monki can also be found on asos, here.  One of my favourite features of Monki is how integrated it is with its customers, encouraging them to #monkistyle and post pictures of how they have styled their new Monki purchases. It is part of the website and not only is it great if you are featured on it, which most people seemingly are, it is also a fab place to find inspiration as to how to style the pieces.

Song of the Week

Hey Guys,

When not doing revision I find it really relaxing to just have a break and listen to some music. I hve been listening to the soundtrack of Sunshine On Leith - a fabulous musical incorporating some of The Proclaimers' best songs. We previously featured 'Over and Done With' as our Song of the Week, but my favourites at the moment are 'Make My Heart Fly' and 'Letter From America'.

Listen to the soundtrack here.

Other than listening to this I have been on the look out for some new music, as it has been a while since I have discovered any 'wow' bands or artists. On my search I came across the rather amusingly named 'The Front Bottoms', an American indie band, who have seemingly been around for a while. I was so excited by their music and it feels like years since I have come across a new indie band. My favourite song is 'Lipstick Covered Magnet' and this is my Song of the Week.

Listen to 'Lipstick Covered Magnet' here.

Other exciting music news this week was my discovery that The Wombats were going to be doing a live lounge with Fearne Cotton on Radio One. I have been a Wombats fan for a few years now, and their album 'A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation' has to be one of my favourite albums ever, every song hits the mark!

Song of the Week

Hey Guys,
The song I have chosen is "NYC Time" by Petite Meller. Miller is a French/English singer-songwriter who has "angelic childlike vocals". She has just released a new album called "Baby Love" but obviously my favourite song is NYC Time; I really enjoy the original song but I'm also very fond of the BetaBlock3rs remix. Here is her Soundcloud where you can access all of her music (as well as YouTube).

L - Loafers

Hey Guys,

Something I have been meaning to buy for a long time is a pair of loafers, hence why they are featuring as letter L. They are such a versatile style of shoe, which are okay to wear on pretty much any occasion!

Loafers can come, themselves, in all different shapes, sizes and colours, be that small or chunky, plain or tasselled. They can also be worn with many different outfits, my favourite is with socks and trousers, but they also look great with dresses and skirts, or even with shorts.

Truffle Collection Het Chunky Tassel Loafers - £40.00 (reduced to £30.00) - asos
Asos Medieval Pointed Loafers - £25.00 - asos

Here asos demonstrate my favourite way to wear loafers and I am particularly taken by the Truffle Collections more heavy weight loafers, especially as they are reduced! I recommend asos if you are unusure of what type of loafer to go for as they have 3 pages which cover a range of different styles and a huge range of prices so you can find the right pair for you.

Loafers featured in Glamour magazine's feature Spring's hottest flat shoes, which you can read via. the link below...

They are a favourite with the celebrity world as well, as stylebistro proves below...

My favourite looks in stylebistro's lookbook are worn by Karlie Kloss, Lou Doillon and Ulyana Sergeenko. I think I like the simplicity of their black loafers, although there are some great looks with bright coloured loafers featured in this look book too.

We hope you all had a lovely Easter and are enjoying the holidays! We are currently coming up to our AS level exams, so have been very busy revising. We hope to keep posting as much as possible, but if we are absent for longer than usual, you know where we are. To any of you who also have exams coming up, we wish you the best of luck.

Song of the Week

Hi Guys,

I was browsing playlists on Spotify and came across a cover of 'Chandelier' by Sia, done by 'The Wind and The Wave'. I don't actually like the original of this song, but the cover is absolutely lovely. 'The Wind and The Wave are a Texan duo made up of Dwight Baker and Patricia Lynn Drew.
