BIRTHDAY HAUL!

Hey Guys,
It's now the end of April and I still haven't done my birthday haul, so hear it is! I turned 16 on Wednesday, 2nd April - and I received lots of wonderful gifts that I would like to share with you. If you are interested in Holly's 16th Birthday Haul click here for part 1 and part 2!

The most amazing thing I got was a Fujifilm Instax 8 in blue, it takes very good quality polaroid pictures. The only downside to this is that the film is very expensive.

Harry Potter pants, 24 piece hair chalk, 1920s headdress

'10 things I hate about you', Pug socks, Disney Tangled book, Dog bookmark

Floral shirt, Butterfly glass box, Melon socks

White and Black lace cover ups

100 TinkerBell stickers, Barry M matte nail varnish - Caramel, Daisy earrings and bracelet

Barry M lipstick - 405, Ferne nail varnish collection, Alice in Wonderland stone/pin thing, Purple butterfly scarf

The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, If you Find me

The Book Thief, Half Bad, 102 Minutes

Delirium, Submarine, Wonder

Life of Pi and Forbidden (both weren't presents but were bought in April)

And lots of chocolate but all of that's gone so there aren't any pictures of them.
I am very grateful for what I received, I also got a lot of money which is being saved up for a new laptop.

Hey Guys,
The Song of the Week this week is 'Teen Idle' by Marina and The Diamonds, this song is from her second album which was called 'Electra Heart'. 'Teen Idle' is a really great song, which is super catchy even though you wouldn't expect it to be! I advise you to check out more of Marina and The Diamonds because her music is really fun and quirky.

Song of the week

Hey Guys,
I've chosen a song from the band Little Comets, I don't know whether they are still together but Wiki says 'Little Comets are an English indie rock trio from Jarrow and Washington, Tyne and Wear. They are described as playing 'kitchen sink indie' music.' The song is called One Night in October.

Corner Bookmarks

Hey Guys,
Sticking with the DIY theme, I took inspiration from Etsy and saw Hogwarts corner bookmarks being sold for £2, so naturally I googled how to make them myself.

This is the link - http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Corner-Munch-Bookmarks - to the instructions but this is just what I did.

Materials
Coloured card
Pencil
Ruler
Glue/Double sided sticky tape
Decorative bits and things

I made 2 different sizes, 6cm and 8cm, but you can make them what ever size you would like the process is still the same.

1) Draw out 3 boxes in a L shape, all the same size. Then split the first and last box diagonally (right top to left bottom) and scribble on the half which is closest to the edge of the paper.
2) Cut out the L shape. Now cut off the triangles which have been scribbled on.
3) Now bend the 2 points over to make a square shape. Glue/tape the upper point onto the one below, DON'T attach them to the base of the square. Once that is done it should look like the picture below.

4) Time to decorate. I wanted mine Hogwarts themed, hence the House colours, so I printed off the House Crests for each bookmark and glued them on. This is the finished product.

They're very simple to make and they look really cool. I'm so happy with how mine turned out and I think they would make good present fillers, specifically designed for what that person likes.

Customised Notebooks

Hey Guys,

There are loads of ways to customise boring notebooks but I have chosen my favourite way to share with you.

Covering notebooks is the easiest way to customise them. Our friend Liz was 16 recently and loves Benedict Cumberbatch, so I decided to customise a notebook for her with Benedict Cumberbatch on.

What did I use?
A cheap notebook
A picture from tumblr.
Printer
Glue and scissors

1. I browsed tumblr and found a collage which had been made of Benedict Cumberbatch and saved it. I then measured the notebook to see what size to print the picture. You need to make sure that the picture is at least 3 cm bigger than the actual notebook on all sides, then print it.

2. Cover the front of your notebook with glue and place the picture, as it comes out of the printer, onto the glued side. Press it down starting in the middle and working outwards so the cover has no creases in it.

3. Trim the paper so it only is about 2 cm too big for the notebook. Open the notebook and cut diagonally from the sides of the paper to where the paper meets the notebook corners. From here create flaps (as shown below) glue the flaps and fold onto the inside of the notebook, (this should look neat if you do it well!)

4. Turn the notebooks so the back is facing upwards and glue down the remainder of the picture onto the back of the notebook

5. Now turn to the back page of the notebook, inside the back cover, and cut two more flaps, one at the top and one at the bottom (as shown below) Glue these flaps and fold onto the inside back cover of the notebook.

6. You now have your completed notebook, congratulations!

Song Of The Week

Hey Guys,
My Song of the Week this week is Cut Your Teeth by Kyla La Grange. In the May Company Magazine Kyla has done the music edit, choosing songs such as Good Woman by Cat Power, so I figured I should check out her music.
Kyla's music is quite otherworldly and very relaxing, she also has awesome hair, which is currently lilac. Enjoy!

March Nails

Hey Guys
Holly
I was in boots the other day and noticed House Of Holland's fake nails. They are absolutely amazing, really fun. My favourite nails from this collection are the Heartbreaker nails, I think they are cute and simple. Although in the collection not all the nails are simple and some are really jazzy, such as the Thorn In My Side nails, which have 3D roses! I also really like the Kitty Kitsch Nails, they are adorable.
At £7.99 these are quite expensive but I imagine they are really good quality and if you want to stand out from the crowd these are definitely the nails for you.
Check out all the designs and buy them here

Daisy
Our friend Isobel had bought this amazing Gel Nail kit and her nail varnish looked immaculate, unfortunately her amazing kit was about ~£100. However I did my research and have found some cheaper gel kits on eBay.

Song of the week

Hey Guys,
I've rekindled my love for Emma Stevens with the song 'Sunflower', it's very beautiful and moving just like all of her songs and is worth the listen if you're in one of those sadish moods.

Films for Summer

Hey Guys,
Recently Holly did a post on 'Books for Summer', where she talked about the books she wanted to read in the summer - if you couldn't tell by the title. It was such a good idea that I wanted to do one myself but instead thought I'd do it about films.

Seeing as films are a lot easier to get through rather than books this list could be very long, instead I'm just going to list the films that I'm really dying to watch or watch again.

  • Re-watch 'The Hunger Games' and anything with Jennifer Lawrence including 'Winter's Bone' and 'Like Crazy'
  • Going completely old school with '10 things I hate about you' and 'Clueless'
  • 'Angus thongs and perfect snogging'
  • 'The Breakfast Club' Holly kindly gave me, then followed by 'Pitch Perfect'  (and they're making a sequel)
  • 'The Princess Diaries' and 'The Princess Diaries 2'
  • 'Tangled', 'Frozen', and 'Alice in wonderland'
  • Finally I would love to marathon Harry Potter and F.R.I.E.N.D.S
I will get through all of the pretty fast so I will be watching lots more as well as regular trips to the cinema, but before all that I have 2 months of exams to look forward too.

Tavi's Inspirational TED Talk

Hey Guys,
I was on our Haisy emails earlier and saw an email about 'Six Inspiring (female) Leaders on Youtube'. It took me to many wonderful videos but one that really stood out to me was this TED Talks video of Tavi Gevinson.

As many of you may already know, I am a big fan of Tavi and her principals. I really encourage you to watch this video, not only is Tavi's talk making very important points about life in an inquisitive and accessible manner but because it is truly inspiring (I have watched it four times now!)

It is only 7 minutes long so please watch it by clicking the link below.

Still figuring it out: Tavi Gevinson at TEDxTeen

I hope that it inspired you too!
